Thailands forward thinking tourism authority has gained a firm understanding of what attracts people to visit the fascinating Kingdom of Thailand so that its new marketing strategy can focus on these niche markets. TAT achieved this by conducting a study that was based on 30,000 interviews and questionnaires for a period of one year between April 2012 and March 2013. The study showed that golf tourism generated 737,861 trips to Thailand and produced estimated earnings of 10.54 billion Baht for the Thai economy.
TAT Deputy Governor for Policy and Planning, Mr. Pongsathorn Kessasamli, believes that maintaining a focus on niche markets will be a productive approach for the future of Thailands tourism industry. Approximately 22 million tourists visited the country in 2012, and there are 24 million visitors projected for 2013. Therefore, TAT has taken the view that it is not necessary to simply attract more tourists. Instead, its new marketing campaign will spotlight and enhance the finest attractions that Thailand has to offer.
There are a number of exceptional golf courses in Thailand, and many of them are situated in beautiful locations. Therefore, it seems only natural that TAT would want to raise awareness of these courses as part of its new marketing strategy. Additionally, golf is a sport that can boast of an international following, and there is also an increasing enthusiasm for the sport within Asia, all of which suggests a widespread audience for TATs marketing efforts.
Southern Thailand alone has a good selection of courses available. One of them, The Rajjaprabha Dam Golf Course, is situated in the stunning Khao Sok National Park in the province of Surat Thani. The course has a spectacular setting as it is surrounded by magnificent limestone cliffs and dense, ancient jungle. The beautiful province of Krabi also has some excellent golf facilities; indeed, its been suggested that the Pakasai Country Club has one of the best 18 hole courses in Thailand. Also, the Krabi Driving Range, which is situated just 15 minutes from the popular tourist location of Ao Nang, has been voted one of the most picturesque practice facilities in South East Asia.
Those travelling to Krabi for a golf holiday will also find an excellent selection of holiday accommodation available.
